MBAGuru guides Miranda House students

November 27th, 2009

MBA Guru, in collaboration with Miranda House, has brought to this vibrating campus a series of stimulating sessions to educate its students on the various criteria involved in the Business school selection process.

The first session of this series was on Management Quotient (MQ) which tested the students on their managerial aptitude.

Following the success of the first session by MBAGuru at MH, recently Nirmit Goel, MBA from S.P.Jain and one of the chief mentors at MBAGuru, conducted an eye-opening session on the fundamentals of Group Discussion for the students of MH. The students who attended the session found it highly educative and beneficial. Most of the myths that revolve around GDs were broken and the students got the real perspective.

The success of the session lied in the level of interaction during the session. The ease and comfort with which the students came up with their true apprehensions speaks volumes about the bond that students can form with MBAGuru faculty.

It turned out to be one of those unique personalized sessions wherein the student participants clarified all their doubts even from areas which were outside the scope of the session.

The session was a result of the valuable collaboration between MBAGuru and the administration at MH. The success of the session goes to the unconditional support and motivation provided by Prof. Tanima Bose (Faculty & Placement Coordinator) and Mr. Mohanty (Admin. Officer). However, the session would not have been possible without the dedication and hard-work of Kritika and Ratna (student coordinators) who displayed excellent management skills in taking the last minute change in Venue and other hiccups in the stride.

Last but not least, this session would not have been possible in this spirit but for the ever so co-operative students of Miranda House, who are already part of the MBAGuru family, in pursuit of success at IIMs, for spreading the word about the session among the students and ensuring that MBAGuru visits their campus.

MBAGuru Scores a Hat-Trick @ MSIT

November 27th, 2009

In continuation of its pursuit to provide unmatched mentorship and guidance to the students of MSIT College (I.P. University), MBAGuru collaborated with the faculty and staff of MSIT to present the last session in the series of career awareness sessions, “How to Crack Personal Interviews”, designed specifically for the college’s 3rd Yr. students. The session was conducted by Sharad Saxena (IITD, IIMA), a QA,DA and GD/PI faculty at MBAGuru. The session extended MBAGuru’s legacy of conducting grand and successful events at MSIT.

It was a pleasant surprise to find more that 70 students in the seminar hall, taking out time from their busy schedule to attend the final session. This proves without doubt, the commitment and seriousness that all MSITians carry. It was also very satisfying to observe that the session was able to have its desired effect. By the end of the session, the students were highly charged up and excited about management as a career option and ready to face real PIs and GDs.

The faculty enjoyed every moment of the session as the audience proved to be one of the most interactive, smart and energetic set of students that he had come across. As a result, the session became a dialogue and discussion rather than a lecture. It was also good to see that the audience found the videos and cartoons used in the presentation humorous and relevant to the session at the same time. The mock interviews that were conducted at the end of the session were also able to amply demonstrate the principles discussed during the session.

Lot of students came to the faculty after the session and asked that how should they attempt typical interview questions such as “Your long term goals?”, “Biggest mistake/greatest learning in life?” etc. Irrespective of the students’ future choice between placements and Management Education, it is only a sound preparation that will ensure success in personal interviews. One cannot overemphasize the importance of mock interviews with PI experts followed by focused feedback. Hence, MBAGuru decided to also conduct free mock PIs for all interested MSITians at their centers itself.

Looking back, the success of the entire 3 session program goes to the unconditional support and motivation provided by the faculty and staff at MSIT. On the ground, Swati and Snigdha (student coordinators) displayed excellent student communication and management. We hope that the faculty, staff and students will continue to partner us in pursuit of career awareness for their students in future.

GGSCC students check their Management Quotient

November 27th, 2009

In order to strengthen its relationship with Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (GGSCC), MBAGuru had planned a series of interactive career awareness sessions for the students of the college, in collaboration with the principal, faculty and staff of the campus. The sessions were designed in a manner that they can guide the 3rd yr. engineering students through this testing time. It was also a testimony of the sense of commitment that MBAGuru has towards GGSCC’s students.

Manage Your Management Quotient, the first in the series of three sessions, was conducted on 17th August, 2009 at the campus itself. There, in the midst of more than a 140 enthusiastic and eager students, Sharad Saxena (MBAGuru faculty – IITD, IIMA) talked about management as a career option and other areas of concern for students. Discussion on how the students can cope with the current global economic recession was also very well received. Subsequently, students were tested on their Management Quotient followed by an interactive discussion on problem solving approaches. Most students enjoyed this part the most as they learnt many novel techniques and got a first hand experience of “lateral thinking”!

It was very satisfying to observe that the session was able to have its desired effect. By the end of the session, the students were highly charged up and excited about the upcoming sessions. In fact, 38 students registered on the spot for the upcoming session “Group Discussions, theory and practice”. The success of the session also goes to the unconditional support and motivation provided by Prof. Jatinder Singh (Principal, GGSCC), Ms. Sheeba (Placement Coordinator, GGSCC) and Ms. Sangeeta (Faculty, GGSCC). We hope that they will continue to partner us in pursuit of career awareness for their students.

Encore at MSIT

November 27th, 2009

Nirmit Goel, MBA from S.P.Jain and one of the chief mentors at MBAGuru, conducted an eye-opening session on the fundamentals of Group Discussion for the 3rd year students of MSIT. More than 80 students attended the session and found it highly educative and beneficial. Most of the myths that revolve around GDs were broken and the students got the real perspective.

The success of the session lied in the level of interaction during the session. The ease and comfort with which the students came up with their true apprehensions speaks volumes about the bond that students can form with MBAGuru faculty. This is evident from the fact that when the faculty asked the students to raise their hands if they had a problem of hesitation, almost 90% hands went up. The rest 10% were also hesitatingly half-way up. And they were thankfully relieved when Nirmit Ma’am not only broke the secret that “Hesitation” is natural but also gave tips on how to use it constructively as a tool to crack the GD.

The session brought the students in such a state of high that they wanted to start preparing for GDs immediately and wanted to know where they can get practice sessions. MBAGuru welcomes all of you to walk into any of our centres to find out more about the available programs.

The faculty too completely enjoyed interacting with such enthusiastic students at MSIT. The informal interactions with students that preceded and followed the actual session displayed the pleasure on both sides.

To keep the students in a learning mode, Business World, the largest selling business magazine in India, was distributed to all who attended the session. (Business World has an exclusive tie-up with MBAGuru for MBAGuru students).

The session is a result of the valuable collaboration between MBAGuru and the administration at MSIT. The Placement Director, faculty and staff at MSIT have always shown enthusiasm towards such educative sessions and motivated us to design customized programs for the institute’s students. However, the session would not have been possible without the dedication and hard-work of Swati Sachdeva and Snigdha, the student coordinators for the 3rd Year students at MSIT. Credit also goes to Mr. Gaurav from the placement cell to schedule and organize such a helpful session. Last but not least, this session would not have been possible in this spirit but for the ever so co-operative MSITians, who are already part of the MBAGuru family, in pursuit of success at IIMs, for spreading the word about the session among the students and ensuring that MBAGuru visits their campus.

DCAS tunes in to MBAGuru

November 27th, 2009

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do and if you wait for the moment when everything, absolutely everything is ready, you shall never begin.

So Go Ahead… Face Your Fears… JUST DO IT!

Date: 18th August, 2009
Venue: DCAS Seminar Hall
Time: 1:30 PM to 3.00 PM

MBA Guru in collaboration with Delhi College of Advanced Studies (DCAS), has brought to this vibrating campus a series of stimulating sessions to educate its students on the various criteria involved in the Business school selection process.

The very first session of this series was on Management Quotient (MQ) – a two hour session that included a CAT-like Management Quotient (MQ) Test which tested the students on their managerial aptitude.

Following the success of the first session by MBA-Guru at DCAS, recently a session was conducted on Group Discussion Awareness Session at DCAS for its 2nd year students. The session was attended by more than 60 students with a dream to get into top B-schools.

Fundamentals of an effective Group Discussion were shared by Ms. Tanya Agarwal (International GMAT Expert).

This session focused on the importance of Group Discussion in the Business School application and admission process. Students were made aware of the fact that merely clearing the written exam was only half the battle won and that there is a lot of work that needs to be put in by an aspirant convert his written call into an admission ticket!

It was a heartening experience to see the students come out in the open and acknowledge their weaknesses in the area of communication and teamwork. They also admitted that good communication skills is one aspect of their personality that they should not ignore to make it big not only in the Business School selection but also in their corporate lives, further in their careers.

The session got into the real spirit of learning and imparting, when students volunteered to participate in an on-the-spot Group Discussion organized during the session itself. While 10 students performed the group discussion, the rest stayed back to observe the group dynamics that take place during such an interactive activity. The activity proved to be fruitful when the participants were given individual analysis of their performances. Such an activity opened their eyes to the realities of their personalities and team skills.

After realizing the success of a mock Group Discussion, students who were observing the activity came up to request for another session where in they could also participate. We are extremely happy to see that we were able to help students realize not only their weaknesses but also inspire them to do something about it.

The Director, Mr. Narendra Mohan at DCAS has been extremely supportive of such activities for the institute’s students. We would like to thank him and other members of the administration of DCAS for all the efforts they put in to bring the real knowledge in the lives of their students. We appreciate the efforts of the administration of DCAS to bring to its students such workshops and sessions to keep their students aware and motivated.

After the success of the last two sessions at DCAS, the students are already looking forward to the upcoming workshop on Personal Interview where in students will not only get a first hand experience of the dynamics that play during a personal interview but also individually go through an interview with a faculty.
