MBAGuru @ Miranda House

November 27th, 2009

In continuation of its pursuit to provide unmatched mentorship and guidance to the students of Miranda House College (Delhi University), MBAGuru collaborated with the faculty and staff of Miranda House to present a series of career awareness sessions designed specifically for the college’s 2nd Yr. and 3rd Yr. students. The sessions focused on widening the students’ perspective about the career choices available to them after graduation and on providing the students a first hand experience of how to face a Management Quotient Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Manage Your Management Quotient, the first in the series of three sessions, was conducted on 19th August, 2009 at the campus itself. There, in the midst of around 40 enthusiastic and eager students, Sharad Saxena (MBAGuru faculty – IITD, IIMA) talked about management as a career option and other areas of concern for students. Discussion on how the students can cope with the current global economic recession was also very well received. Subsequently, students were tested on their Management Quotient followed by an interactive discussion on problem solving approaches. Most students enjoyed this part the most as they learnt many novel techniques and got a first hand experience of “lateral thinking”!

The faculty enjoyed every moment of the session as the audience proved to be one of the most interactive, smart and energetic set of students that he had come across. As a result, the session became a dialogue and discussion rather than a lecture. It was also very satisfying to observe that the session was able to have its desired effect. By the end of the session, the students were highly charged up and excited about the upcoming session on Group Discussion. In fact, the students were confident that the next session would be a bigger success due to the positive word of mouth that this session will generate.

The success of the session also goes to the unconditional support and motivation provided by Prof. Tanima (Faculty & Placement Coordinator) and Mr. Mohanty (Admin. Officer). On the ground, Kritika and Ratna (student coordinators) displayed excellent management in spreading the word about the session. We hope that the faculty, staff and students will continue to partner us in pursuit of career awareness for their students.

MBAGuru Rocks at VIPS!

November 27th, 2009

MBAGuru conducted a Management Awareness Session at VIPS (IP Univ.) for its 2nd year BCA students. The session was conducted by Mr. Sharad Saxena (IITD, IIMA), a faculty member at MBAGuru. More than 80 students attended the session, held at the college library, listening intently to every insight that the faculty had to offer about their career options, management skills, problem solving techniques etc. In fact, the students found the session so useful that on public demand, two more sessions have been planned in the coming weeks on GD and PI!

The faculty enjoyed every moment of the session in front of a highly talented and career conscious audience. The two hour session included a CAT-like Management Quotient (MQ) Test which tested the students on their managerial aptitude. Apart from the MQ test and discussion on the solution, the session covered areas of interest to students such as management as a career option, effect of recession on employment choices, scope of technical jobs, how to maintain employability at workplace etc.

The session is a result of the valuable collaboration between MBAGuru and the administration at MSIT. The Director (Dr. Sushila Madan) and faculty (Ms. Supriya Ma’m and others) at VIPS have always shown enthusiasm towards such programs. We hope that they will continue to partner us in pursuit of career awareness for their students.

MBAGuru scores @ MSIT

November 27th, 2009

MBA-Guru conducted a Career Awareness Camp at MSIT (IP Univ.) for its 3rd year students. The session was taken by Mr. Sharad Saxena (IITD, IIMA), a faculty member at MBAGuru, and proved to be a huge hit!! More than 130 students attended the session and found it highly educative and beneficial.

It was a pleasure for the faculty to interact with such a talented and career conscious bunch of students at MSIT. Students amply displayed their enthusiasm by braving the sweltering heat to attend the two hour session that included a CAT-like Management Quotient (MQ) Test which tested the students on their managerial aptitude. Apart from the MQ test and a discussion on novel approaches to solve it, the session covered areas of interest to students such as management as a career option, effect of recession on employment choices, scope of technical jobs, how to maintain employability at workplace etc.

The camp is a result of the valuable collaboration between MBAGuru and the administration at MSIT. The Placement Director, faculty and staff at MSIT have always shown enthusiasm towards such educative sessions and motivated us to design customized programs for the institute’s students. However, the session would not have been possible without the dedication and hard-work of Swati Sachdeva, the student coordinator for the 3rd Year students at MSIT. Credit also goes to the MSITians, who are already part of the MBAGuru family, in pursuit of success at IIMs, for spreading the word about the session among the students and ensuring that MBAGuru visits their campus.

The session proved to be so useful and relevant for students that they have shown a keen interest in the upcoming sessions on Group Discussion and Personal Interviews in the coming weeks. The mail below, from an MSIT student to our faculty, is a clear indicator of the success of this session and the need for future sessions: -

“Thank you very much sir for conducting this session. I enjoyed it very much. Sir, I also face problems in public speaking. I want to prepare myself for interviews and GDs. Can you suggest me some ways through which I can remove my hesitation?”

The faculty’s reply was as follows: -

“I am glad to know that you enjoyed the session. At MBAGuru, we know that most students face problem in public speaking because of lack of exposure and experience. Please do not worry about it. It is just a matter of practice and expert feedback which can remove this. In fact, public speaking and group behavior is an area which requires a lot of practice and that is the reason why at MBAGuru, we start the GD/PI preparation for our students from the very beginning.

This is also the reason for which MBA Guru is conducting the GD/PI sessions at your campus. Please attend them as they will help you immensely and give you that push that you require. In fact, our session on GD will specifically cover hesitation and how to remove it!!”
