File RTI if you want your CAT Score re-evaluated

The Right to Information Act seems to be holding out hope for candidates unhappy with their scores in Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009.

Speaking to the media, Satish Deodhar, convenor of CAT committee, a pan-IIM body, said on Wednesday that a re-evaluation of CAT scores was possible only if candidates asked for their score details through RTI application. He maintained that the CAT 2009 scores were not flawed. At the upcoming IIM directors’ meet, however, the online test is likely to be reviewed. A total of 2.17 lakh candidates across the country took the first online CAT this year.

“We cannot allow students to take a look a their test papers. It is not done in any test, be it an entrance test or university exams. But if students file RTIs in case of any doubts about their scores, we can ask Prometric to conduct a re-evaluation,” said Deodhar.

About Prometric continuing with the contract for online tests, he said, “The decision to take the test online and choice of the agency was done by IIM directors collectively. So, they will decide the fate of the online test and that of Prometric.”

    RTI Procedure:
    Pre-requisites:
1.Your name, address, contact telephone number and your email id
2.Information about Public Information officer, name, address e.t.c.
3.Mode of Payment available with CPIO, the fees, and Contact person to receive the application.
    4.Application Guidelines:
While filing an RTI application, the framing of the questions is very important. A slight misunderstanding or vague questions gives the PIO a chance to reject your application. Follow these guidelines:
Use a white sheet of paper to write an application. There is no need to using Note-sheet, or the Court stamp paper. You can use your letter pad for asking for information.
The matter can be hand written, or typed. There is no compulsion of typing the content.
Make sure the application is legible and easy to read.
There is no restriction on number of pages for asking information.
There are also no restriction on number of questions that can be asked in one application. However, it is generally advisable to ask restrict one application with limited set of questions and generally related ones.

The Basics first. RTI, put simply, is meant for empowerment of the people. Knowledge is power and RTI intends to give this power to people.
What is the time limit to get the information:
    1. “30 days from the date of application
    2. 48 hours for information concerning the life and liberty of a person
The Fees: “The fee charge should be “reasonable” and no fee is to be taken from people below the poverty line.
So, you submit your application to the concerned CPIO (Central Public Information Officer) of the institution.
follow the procedure mentioned in the link below:
