A year of Online Coaching for CAT

Along with the best online CAT coaching, it is true that the students also need to check the type of coaching fit for them.

In the first quarter of 2020, the entire world had locked down to varying extents in order to tackle the pandemic. Faced with something completely unknown, it seemed a prudent first measure for most nations. None of us could have possibly imagined a far worse scenario playing out more than a year later. But sadly, here we are.

Early Transition to Online Coaching for CAT

While some online CAT Preparation Online classes were in existence even before the pandemic, the obvious limitations of the same meant that they were used mainly by:

  • working professionals who did not have enough time to travel and attend an offline coaching, or
  • students in remote areas/small towns who did not have access to great mentors.

The prolonged pandemic, however, forced a change. The change was slow at first. Most big CAT Coaching institutes waited for weeks, even months, before offering CAT online coaching classes. Some of them offered only recorded sessions, with near zero interaction for the entire batch of CAT2020 aspirants.

However, at MBAGuru, we saw the challenge as an opportunity to become better, learn and ADAPT.

MBAGuru’s response to the challenge:

In a mail that I wrote to our students last year, in the last week of March, I wrote:

“It has been one of the most challenging weeks for us at MBAGuru.

It has been one of the most exciting weeks for us at MBAGuru.

The challenge is external – it is not something we created, or have control over. The only thing we have control over is how we respond to it.

The excitement is internal – it is in our DNA to see what we can do with what we have right NOW!

Last week, we did some experiments and I am so happy and proud that everyone – from the mentors, the team and our most wonderful students – has risen unto the occasion so gracefully.

The mentors have adapted to online teaching with amazing speed, re-preparing each of their sessions to align them with the virtual delivery platform.

And admittedly, some of us are not as technically gifted and adept as you young guns are 🙂  But boy, are we relishing it now!”

This mail was written less than a week after the Delhi Government shut down all coaching institutions, colleges and schools in March 2020. This was even before the national lockdown that brought the country to a screeching halt.

The thoughts behind the launch of Online Preparation for CAT

For the first few hours, we were as daunted as anyone else. But we faced the situation, adjusted our expectations, and decided to change. We felt that CAT online Coaching classes were a reality that could be the new normal in the foreseeable future and for a prolonged period of time. And even afterwards some students will continue to prefer it – although it has some limitations when compared to offline classes. But then, it has some advantages too, especially in the times we are faced with today.

So, rather than fight what was beyond our control, we made it a mission to learn, evolve and to:

And over the past year, we have continued to move in that direction keeping a sharp focus on these 2 goals.

While we are ever-ready to recommence offline classes as soon as the situation allows for the same, the experience of the past year makes us doubly sure that it is better to move on and make progress than sit down and wait. And every day of the ‘lockdown’ or some similar constraint can be put to productive use and to ensure a level-up with online Preparation for CAT.

What’s in it for YOU?

So, what is the take away for you then?

  • Don’t worry about what you cannot control – because worrying only makes you inactive, indecisive and unproductive.
  • Adjust your expectations for a far worse case – say an extended lockdown for example – because that will make anything else that goes wrong, more palatable. Also, you may get a pleasant surprise if things turn out better – we may have seen the worst already, vaccinations may ease out things considerably or something else, fingers crossed.
  • Prepare for the lowered expectations as a reality – Start taking control of today with small steps towards your life-goals. Moving on is almost always better than staying put.

If your exams get delayed significantly, or the current situation continues for a longer-than-expected period, your prep would still be on track if you keep going now. In fact, you can continue to “zoom” past 1000s of your competitors every day week, if you stay the course.

If things improve sooner than expected, well, you won’t lose anything, would you!! It would only add more power to your prep.

As a family, we have to turn this difficult period into an opportunity, to transform the haziness of thought into a focused effort. And to re-commit ourselves to your success at CAT-2021.

If you aren’t an MBAGuru student, I hope and wish your CAT 2021 online coaching too upped its game to ensure the very best for you.

About the author: Deekshant has sleep-walked through several 100 and 99.9 %iles in practically every section of the CAT. That he is a cricket fan and he writes okay is evident from most of his posts. 1000s of our students swear that he can motivate almost anyone to double his/her percentile through very simple yet powerful inputs. And that’s why every MBAGuru student has direct access to him via mail and Telegram. Oddly, he somehow also finds the time to write songs professionally. And yes … almost missed this … he is an alumnus of IIT Delhi & IIM Cal 🙂
