Add 100% more to your CAT preparation in 3 simple steps

This is a theme I have touched upon more than once in some of my previous write-ups. But I just cannot emphasize it enough.

I will try to keep this short and I will probably take up the reason for why this WILL work 100% in doubling the effectiveness of your CAT preparation, in one of the future write-ups. For now, just trust me and try it out for a couple of weeks.

These 3 simple steps are almost guaranteed to make your offline or Online Coaching for CAT up to twice as powerful. Even better, they can be done right away, and completely by yourself, with no need of a mentor. A good buddy, family member can often be a catalyst to keep you on track in a couple of weeks’ time – but more on this later in this write-up.

When you can start with these power-steps?

You can start these today. In fact, you can start right after you finish reading this article. And you need no one and nothing else to get started. Isn’t that fantastic!!

But a word of caution: Starting could be easy, especially if you are determined to add this magical 3-step wonder cure. Sticking to it would be far tougher, if your temptation beats your focus. This is the only place where a little external help from someone who has continuous physical access to you may help (not in the naughty ways you may be imagining ;))

Step-1: Trash everything you don’t need NOW!

(a) DELETE all unnecessary APPS (anything you don’t REALLY REALLY REALLY need) from your smartphone, tab, iPad or whatever gadgets you use daily.

(b) SWITCH OFF notifications for all apps. Even for the apps you keep, keep your main screen free (put the apps in the app drawer/equivalent) so that you have to take an additional step to even check any of these apps.

(c) Use these remaining APPS from the drawer when you are not preparing and NOT alongside your preparation.

(d) Remember, people will call you, if it’s really really important or urgent.

In most cases, nothing there is life altering, important or even urgent. It’s a lot of noise that just takes away the energy from your CAT preparation or anything else you want to do purposefully. The worst part is that you don’t choose the time at which this noise happens. And that brings us to the next step.

Step-2: Fix the daily social media dose in your CAT preparation

a) FIX the daily total TIME limit for engaging in any Telegram / Facebook / Whatsapp groups related to your preparation.

b) FIX the times when you are active on these groups. You could be active on these groups say once (at most twice a day) at fixed times. Those times should be driven by YOU and your doubts/needs, scheduled sessions and not the other way around.

c) The questions that others are doing in their CAT preparation, and when they are doing those are far less important than the time you waste in not doing what YOU should be doing, and at a time that suits you.

Step-3: Don’t keep it when you don’t need it

Keep your cellphone away (not put upside down, not in your pocket, not just on silent mode, but some distance away, preferably in a different room altogether) when you are preparing, whether you are attending your CAT coaching classes, or you are attempting an AIRCAT / mock CAT. You will start achieving in 3 hours what you will otherwise accomplish in 6!

This is where a good buddy/family member could be immensely helpful. Remember making others follow a habit is easier than following it yourself :D. So, outsource your tough task to someone who will find it easy. Perhaps a sibling who would love to exact some revenge. Or your omni-powerful mom! This person only needs to be a custodian of your mobile-phone during these periods. Just like family keeps away a habitual addict – just pause and think, aren’t we addicted to these gadgets who continue to get more time and attention than practical anything else in our lives?

Chances are that a few months hence you would share the joy of your success the most with this study-buddy of yours.


Whether you take these 3 steps or not depends on how badly you want to improve your productivity in relation to your CAT prep or anything else you consider important. But if you take these 3 very doable, immediately applicable simple steps, you WILL see a definite improvement in how the time you invest in your preparation brings in twice as powerful results.
