CAT Prep Story: From a Refund request to an INSPIRA Host

Sahib Kaur

Some stories stay fresh in our minds long after they take place. And this is a turnaround story as remarkable as any can be – hence, the stickiness đź™‚ This is the story of Sahib Kaur – a DU girl, who was a superb communicator and also someone who was very anxious about her CAT prep. However, the start of her CAT coaching journey was such that she wanted a refund of her fee soon after she joined. What happened later on is what makes Sahib’s story so remarkable.

The Set-up

This was on a June evening a few years years ago. An extremely upset girl, and her dad, stomped into one of our CP centers. She had enrolled for what she thought was the best CAT coaching institute in Delhi a couple of weeks before. And there had been some communication gap, twice in two weeks, about her classes. They had traveled all the way from Faridabad to CP to find that the class wasn’t happening. Therefore, their anger was understandable.

It was the rarest of rare cases for our team (we are neither used to poor services nor refunds). The girl’s father was adamant on a refund, and we couldn’t have allowed a student to leave on such a bad note. Priyanka ma’am and her team found the most creative solution to accommodate both. And the rest, as I mentioned earlier, is a story almost too good to be true.

Our Reaction

The CP study center team, with Abhishek Ranjan sir, ensured a seamless experience thereon. The faculty team of course leaves no stone unturned for any student, completely independent of any other thing. When I checked with the girl a couple of weeks later, she had settled down nicely.

Later that year, she was shortlisted (ironically by Priyanka ma’am) to anchor the INSPIRA, and she did it twice in 2 years with grace and class. (For the uninitiated, INSPIRA is India’s Biggest Inspirational Event for MBA Aspirants that our team holds every year.)

I had the pleasure of meeting her a few times and was impressed at her amazing communication skills and confidence, despite the occasional self-doubt phase that almost every CAT aspirant faces.

The Sweet Finale

Next year, around this time, I got the following whatsapp:

“I got an admission offer letter from SP Jain, sir. Thanks a lot for your constant support and encouragement sir, I wouldn’t have been here without it. Thanks a lot for believing in me when I wasn’t believing in myself. Thank you for guiding me and giving me the opportunity of hosting INSPIRA twice. Proud to be a part of MBAGuru, sir.

And another one a few minutes later:

“The beginning was so funny sir, I laugh sometimes thinking about it but I’m extremely happy that I stayed. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without it. MBAGuru is just different, I don’t know how but it is. It feels comfortable unlike other institutes. Maybe it’s the staff? I couldn’t figure out but it’s just amazing, the way everything happens here. I’m kind of sad that I’ll be leaving this place now but I’ll definitely come to meet you.”

The protagonist of the story, Sahib Kaur, one of our most talented students and I am as proud of her achievement as I am of her humility in reaching out to me with such a beautiful and heartfelt message. As the face of MBAGuru, I end up getting a lot of undeserved praise because of the brilliant work that entire team does, keeping your interests at the center of everything, day in and day out. But for Sahib’s patience and perseverance and the team’s remarkable efforts, this story could have ended before it began. Don’t miss out on her story in her own sweet words in this short 1-minute story here.

She specialized in marketing, and often reaches out while visiting home to check if she can do something to help MBAGuru. That’s how the bonds at MBAGuru are – they are not limited to the duration of coaching and they invariably get better with time!

About the author: Deekshant has sleep-walked through several 100 and 99.9 %iles in practically every section of the CAT. That he is a cricket fan and he writes okay is evident from most of his posts. 1000s of our students swear that he can motivate almost anyone to double his/her percentile through very simple yet powerful inputs. And that’s why every MBAGuru student has direct access to him via mail and Telegram. Oddly, he somehow also finds the time to write songs professionally. And yes … almost missed this … he is an alumnus of IIT Delhi & IIM Cal 🙂
