A perspective for all those whose CAT preparation efforts culminated in today’s CAT:
No one (but the IIMs) really knows the right answers to the questions. (And they will share the same in early December.)
No one (including the IIMs) really knows, as of this moment, how lakhs of aspirants did and hence, what score would get what percentile? (This will become clear in early Jan 2025, if not earlier.)
So, there is no way for you to really know right now, how you did or how the others did. Some random expert opinions can’t change that fact. The fancy analyses coming from some CAT coaching institute or CAT preparation expert is almost always way off the mark.
You would not have been able to change anything now even if you actually knew how you or the others did.
You have done your part. Let the IIMs, and the other B-Schools that accept the CAT scores, do their bit now.
Whether you have done exceptionally well, or not as well as you possibly could have – in either case, thinking about it now won’t change anything.
And many of you would be pleasantly surprised when the results come out. I say and see this every year.
No exam or its result can finally decide your fate or prevent your success. You, and your life, is bigger than any exam(s) you take.
So, what should you do now? Today, chill out and do what you enjoy most. You’ve earned this evening.
From tomorrow morning, focus on all the non-CAT exams that remain. Let’s work together to ensure that you give them your best now.
This battle is over, but there are several others you still need to fight. And remember, there is only one you need to win finally. One seat at any Top B-School is all you have been working for – and that work isn’t over yet!
Focus on what you can still change. Stop fretting about what has happened – just believe that it was good/happened for good.
You prepared well and played your heart out – in the end, that is all that counts. And for that, well done! 🙂
