Some confusion is natural during the Personal Interview prep

Confused whether to take CAT again or not?

Preparation for a Top B-School/IIM Personal Interview is a little different from the prep for CAT. At times you might find yourself getting slightly different inputs from different mentors about the same question. So, Aman sir or Dhruba sir for example may have a slightly different view from what Rajat sir or I may think about a question. This is quite unlike the first stage of your CAT preparation journey, wherein there is only one correct/best answer to each question.

But isn’t that natural in something as “personal” as an interview? Each person in each panel you face will probably be different. He/she will think and evaluate differently, and have different views on different things! Even the same person may react differently on a different day 🙂

That occasional difference in feedback/experience during your prep prepares you for the actual challenge ahead.

But what can YOU do about it? Again think about how some of your mentors – Aman sir, Rajat sir, Joginder sir, Abhishek sir or yours truly – all cracked the IIM/Top B-School interviews despite being very different from each other, thinking differently, answering differently and so on. But there was one things all of us did – the LCM of it all – we remained ourselves.

So, in the rare case that you find yourself getting slightly varied inputs on a question or a situation, relax – it is natural.

The way to solve it is to think (or feel) what goes better with the person you are. Stick with that and you will be well placed to succeed.

About the author: Deekshant has sleep-walked through several 100 and 99.9 %iles in practically every section of the CAT. That he is a cricket fan and he writes okay is evident from most of his posts. 1000s of our students swear that he can motivate almost anyone to double his/her percentile through very simple yet powerful inputs. And that’s why every MBAGuru student has direct access to him via mail and Telegram. Oddly, he somehow also finds the time to write songs professionally. And yes … almost missed this … he is an alumnus of IIT Delhi & IIM Cal 🙂
