How to prepare for CAT to get a 99 percentile? It’s boring!

best coaching for cat

When we think about how to prepare for CAT, we think about covering the course for CAT & wonder whether doing that will allow us to nail the CAT exam. We think about taking the most competitive test series, or the most exhaustive material – again, something everyone has access to!

Most of us want to score that elusive 99 Percentile at the CAT. And many of us believe we can’t get it even if gain access to the best CAT coaching.

We lay the blame on lack of ability, average past academics, our CAT Coaching or some other ‘uncontrollable’ or ‘luck-based’ factors.

It’s about HOW and not WHAT

There is very little difference in the WHAT part of CAT preparation for most CAT aspirants. Most of these are things everyone knows and tries to do. The difference comes from HOW you do it. The one truth we don’t face is that becoming really good at anything requires you to do the same things – over and over again, day in, day out, week in, week out.

It is repetitive. And it is monotonous. Also, It is boring.

What do you think “riyaaz” is? Or what does someone like Kohli do everyday (he not only practices for hours, but even has an amazingly boring diet he has followed for years now)?

The secret to becoming a genius

The secret to extra-ordinariness is 1000s of hours of focused effort in the right areas. And yes, that’s boring. What do you think a fast bowler does for hours, days, weeks, months and years before he becomes say a Bumrah?

If you realize this and know that this is still the best way to get ‘there’ – you might just begin to enjoy the slog!
So, everyday could be “oh, this, again?” or “let me do it better than I did yesterday”.
The path may be boring, the journey can still be fun if you start seeing it that way.

At MBAGuru, there is a gamut of things we do keep the journey fun as well.

So, remember that the first word in HOW to prepare for CAT is HOW and not WHAT!

The path to excellence (at CAT that may be the 99 Percentile mark) is boring – make it as lively as you can, but more importantly, realize that boring is what you need to get through to get to your goal.

About the author: Deekshant has sleep-walked through several 100 and 99.9 %iles in practically every section of the CAT. That he is a cricket fan and he writes okay is evident from most of his posts. 1000s of our students swear that he can motivate almost anyone to double his/her percentile through very simple yet powerful inputs. And that’s why every MBAGuru student has direct access to him via mail and Telegram. Oddly, he somehow also finds the time to write songs professionally. And yes … almost missed this … he is an alumnus of IIT Delhi & IIM Cal 🙂
